Perranporth Youth Aquathon 2011

In what was perhaps the most challenging conditions yet in the history of this event, a hard-core group of 7 -15 year old athletes took on the thundering surf at Perranporth and followed that with a tough race along and around the beach to cross the finish line and turn in some quite amazing performances.

Setting off in three waves, boys and girls combined battled it out and in another first for the event, it was a young lady from Gyllyngvase Surf Lifesaving Club that crossed the finish line in first – surely a young woman to watch for future events!

Around 150 children between the ages of 7 and 15 took part in the recent Perranporth Youth Challenge Aquathon (formerly Biathlon). These are the triathletes of the future and didn’t they do well?

The sea conditions were such that the swim section was downgraded to a wade for safety considerations!

Take a bunch of local kids from Cornish surf lifesaving clubs, mix in some September sunshine and some waves and you have the perfect recipe for another stomping Junior Biathlon.
